What is a sports podiatrist?
A sports podiatrist focuses on how the lower limb performs under load — running, jumping, cutting and repetitive training. Rather than treating symptoms in isolation, we look at foot function, running technique, footwear and training load together to find the actual cause of an injury. Accurate early diagnosis is what determines the fastest return to activity, which is why assessment is the core of everything we do. Our podiatrists particularly enjoy challenging, persistent lower limb pains that have been difficult to resolve elsewhere.
Sports and lower limb injuries we treat
Our senior podiatrists commonly diagnose and treat:
- Heel pain — plantar fasciitis and related heel conditions.
- Shin splints — muscle- and bone-related lower leg pain from load and impact.
- Achilles injuries — tendinopathy and overload problems.
- Calf and soleus strains.
- Knee pain — often driven by foot function, run technique and hip stability.
- ITB pain — pain on the outside of the knee.
- Forefoot and foot pain.
- Stress fractures and stress reactions.
- Sever's disease and other growth-related conditions in young athletes.
- Ingrown nails — temporary and permanent treatments.
How we assess and treat
Every appointment starts with a thorough assessment to pinpoint the exact cause of your pain. Treatment may combine footwear advice, load and training adjustments, technique guidance, and — where it's the right call — custom orthotic therapy. We aim to fix the underlying problem, not just settle the symptoms, so the injury doesn't return when you build mileage back up.
Custom orthotics made onsite
Unique to Shoes Feet Gear, our orthotics are scanned, designed and manufactured in our own clinic. Using 3D laser scanning, digital design and onsite CNC milling, we control the entire process — a precise fit and a rapid turnaround, in as little as a few hours when needed. You're not waiting weeks for an external lab, and adjustments can be made on the spot.
Working with our running and sporting community
Our podiatrists work closely with running groups, triathlon clubs and trail walking groups, as well as the sports programs of large schools across Bardon and inner Brisbane. We have a special interest in active kids and teenagers — see our kids and adolescents page for growth-related conditions and load management for young athletes.

Frequently asked questions
What does a sports podiatrist do?
A sports podiatrist diagnoses and treats lower limb injuries related to running and sport — covering the foot, heel, shin, Achilles, knee and hip. We assess foot function, running technique, footwear and training load to find the cause of an injury and plan the fastest safe return to activity.
Do I need a referral to see a sports podiatrist?
No. You can book privately without a referral. If you have a Medicare Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan or a DVA referral from your GP, bring it to your appointment.
What running and sports injuries do you treat?
Common ones include plantar fasciitis and heel pain, shin splints, Achilles tendon injuries, running-related knee pain, forefoot and stress-related injuries, and growth-related conditions in young athletes such as Sever's disease.
How are your custom orthotics made?
Onsite. We use 3D laser scanning, digital design and CNC milling in our own clinic, so we control the full process and can deliver a precise fit with a rapid turnaround — in as little as a few hours when needed.
Can I claim on private health or DVA?
Yes. Podiatry consultations and orthotics can be claimed through private health funds with extras cover, and we are registered for DVA. Item codes are available so you can check your rebate — see our prices and item codes.
